Alverda Kahle Kilts was born July 17,
1909 to George and Minnie Kahle. She grew up in Kendall
County, just south of Yorkville on 120 acres at Ashley and
Caton Farm roads. She attended Pletcher Grade School, 4
miles south of Yorkville. She graduated from Yorkville High
School with the Class of 1925. Unfortunately, we have only
one photo of her (shown here), from her Freshman
yearbook.
In November of 1949, at the age of 40, Alverda married
Edward Morton Kilts, who at the time was 60 years old. They
were married 29 years, until his death in 1978 at the age of
89. They owned and operated the Yorkville Egg and Poultry
store at the corner of Heustis and VanEmmon roads. It closed
in 1987, and Alverda passed in 1988 at the age of 79.
Alverda and Ed were very hard working people. They lived
simply and frugally. They worked long hours on their farm
and the Yorkville Egg and Poultry House, well past the age
when most people retire. They allowed themselves only one
luxury...a new Chrysler vehicle every few years.
This website includes information and true stories of the
lives of these people. It will give you insight into who
they were, what they contributed to Kendall County, and help
you to understand how and why the foundation was formed. We
hope you will take the time to read and enjoy their rich
legacy!
